Janice D. Schakowsky is a U.S. Representative from Illinois, born in Chicago in 1944. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1962 and earned a B.S. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1965. Before her congressional career, she served as director of the Illinois State Council of Senior Citizens and was a member of the Illinois state house of representatives from 1990 to 1998.
