Nydia M. Velázquez

Nydia M. Velazquez is a Representative from New York, born in Puerto Rico in 1953. She earned degrees from the University of Puerto Rico and New York University, and worked as a professor and staff member for various organizations. After serving on the New York City Council and holding leadership roles in Puerto Rican community affairs, she was elected to Congress in 1993 and has served multiple terms, including as chair of the Committee on Small Business.
