Chris Van Hollen is a U.S. Senator from Maryland, born in Karachi, Pakistan. He graduated from Swarthmore College, earned degrees from Harvard and Georgetown, and worked as a lawyer. Van Hollen served in the Maryland state legislature before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002, where he served until 2017 when he was elected to the Senate.
