John Thune is a U.S. Senator from South Dakota, born in Pierre in 1961. He graduated from Jones County High School and earned degrees from Biola University and the University of South Dakota. Thune has held various leadership roles in state organizations and served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2003 before being elected to the Senate in 2004.
