Mazie K. Hirono is a U.S. Senator from Hawaii, born in Fukushima, Japan in 1947. After graduating from the University of Hawaii and Georgetown University Law Center, she practiced law and served in the Hawaii state legislature and as lieutenant governor. Hirono was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2013 before successfully running for the Senate in 2012 and 2018.
