Tim Scott is a U.S. Senator from South Carolina, born in North Charleston in 1965. After graduating from Charleston Southern University, he served on the Charleston County Council and in the South Carolina House of Representatives before being elected to Congress. In 2013, he was appointed to the Senate, filling a vacancy, and was subsequently elected to full terms in 2014, 2016, and 2022.
